It’s that time of year when I love to make plans. Part of my process is laying out my teaching plans for the year. This is one of the exercises that helps me to see my deepening understanding as a yogi and growth as a teacher. I’ve wrapped up my planning for my classes and I’m very excited at the curriculum I’ve constructed.
While each class stands alone, there is also a beautiful flow to the classes as an entire body of work for 2021. The first week of each month is dedicated to the yoga sutras and the chakras which draw from deep and ancient traditional teachings. The second week of the month will focus on targeted mobility training for the spine, hips or hamstrings. The third week of the month switches back to philosophy by taking a look at the yamas and niyamas – the values underpinning yoga. And, finally, the last week of the month will focus on classic themes such as backbending, inversions, or foundational poses such as Triangle. Whether you are a beginner or experienced yogi, there is a lot to explore and experience!
As I look back on 2020, despite the craziness of having to become an online teacher almost overnight, I am thankful for the experience of teaching online. I am also thankful for the time I have been able to devote to deepening and strengthening my own practice. I have had the marvelous opportunity to study with teachers whom I never dreamed I would learn from their online offerings in small groups. That has really been somewhat magical for me. I read some wonderful books – and I mean, slowly and with a studious eye rather than just racing through to get to the end and check it off my to do list.
Finally, to wrap all of this up, I have recently had some inquiries regarding private sessions. I am offering them but for the foreseeable future, they will be online only. I look forward to a time in the future (next year I hope) when we can be in person again.
The light in me sees and honors the light in you, Arlene
