I’ve been meaning to write a blog post for over a month. Truth be told, I’ve put “pen to paper” a few times, wrote out a few lines and didn’t feel the grab that usually takes hold of me to keep writing until completion. More truth be told, because of the state of the world, I’m moving in a different way then I normally do when it comes to going about the business of life.
Recently, I was designing a new offering (more on that in a moment), and I came up with the title, “Slow Flow with Intention”. And, it hit me that title describes how I’m moving about my life too. Life before March 16, 2020, was fast paced for me. Go, go, go and do, do, do. While this doesn’t sound very yogic, I liked it and it felt good to have my plate piled to the ceiling at all times.
And, then, as you know and as you are also living through, everything changed very quickly seven months ago. It is true that just as a journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step, your life can change completely in a split second. Suddenly, I was home in quantities of time that were completely foreign to me. It was unsettling but it also felt like a return to an earlier time in my life when I did less and enjoyed more.
Having a positive nature, I have sought to find ways to embrace what I cannot change during this time. I took on learning some hard things.
I did some major organizational projects. I relished not driving eighty miles a day. I rejoiced in being at home with our new kitten.
I saw winter turn to spring, spring to summer, and summer to fall in whole new way.
When I look at my response, I see two themes emerging. The first being a desire for beauty in my life as an antidote to feeling powerless. The second constructing a slower paced lifestyle where I’m able to take time to really focus on what I’m doing. This is really extending across every aspect of my life.
So, when Our Community Well asked me to do some online pop up classes, it was the perfect opportunity to reflect this ethos. Thus, the class concept of “Slow Flow with Intention” came to be. The classes start next Tuesday night, 5:30 PM EST and alternate Tuesdays with Thursdays. (Check the Our Community Well website for all the details.) This class is a little more intense than the gentle classes I teach, but if you are able to get up and down off of the floor easily, you will do fine. The best way I can describe the offering is that I will be drawing from both ancient and modern traditions. There will be some classic sequencing of poses as well as targeted mobility training where we really dig into the postures. It’s a blend of the old and the new designed to refresh, renew and energize.
It’s no accident that this class has come to be. It’s the natural outpouring of all the good stuff that has been infusing my life during what is surely the strangest time for all of us. I hope you will join me!
